Following the order of Malacañang last April 28, Bacolod City and Negros Occidental extended their modified general community quarantine status until May 31, 2021. However, hospitals in Bacolod City have recorded a 76 percent occupancy of their COVID-19 beds. Meanwhile, Victorias City will require travelers coming from outside Region 6 to submit a negative swab result upon their arrival.

Quarantine Updates: MGCQ status retained in Bacolod and Negros Occidental until May 31

Bacolod City and Negros Occidental have issued executive orders (EOs) putting the city and the province under modified general community quarantine until the end of May [1]. In Bacolod City, Mayor Evelio Leonardia retained the city’s quarantine status despite the spike in COVID-19 cases in the city. However, the mayor continues to remind everyone to be more vigilant and cautious by practicing public safety and health protocols mandated by the government.

Moreover, the city will still observe the 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM curfew and the liquor ban [2]. Under the liquor ban, the consumption of alcoholic drinks in public places will be allowed from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM only. In terms of travel, Bacolod City will continue to follow the uniform travel protocols by the National Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Travel Updates: Victorias requires swab testing for travelers outside Region 6

Data gathered by the Bacolod Emergency Operations Center (EOC) showed that 76 percent of COVID-19 hospital beds are already occupied. This was a big leap compared to the occupancy rate recorded last February, when the utilization rate was only at 20 to 30 percent. The EOC added that 136 COVID-19 patients are admitted to seven hospitals in the city [4].
