The previous year was defined by restrictions and community quarantine, and this year starts no different as protocols against the spread of COVID-19 are carried over in Bacolod City. For more precautions against the virus, a hospital in Silay will receive a budget for its expansion while the province has allocated a budget of PhP30 million for COVID-19 vaccines. Meanwhile, five towns in the province register zero coronavirus cases.


Quarantine Updates


Curfew hours in Bacolod return to 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM

A new city ordinance returning the curfew schedule in Bacolod City from 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM was issued by Mayor Evelio Leonardia. The mayor also signed Executive Order (EO) No. 84 extending the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) in Bacolod until the end of January 2021. During the MGCQ period, the selling of alcoholic beverages will be allowed from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM only, and consumption of liquor can only be done within private properties. Also, individuals under 15 years old and above 65 years old, persons with health risks, and pregnant women are still strictly required to stay inside their homes [1].

Over 5 Negros Occidental towns register zero active COVID-19 cases

As of the January 5 update of the Provincial Incident Management Team, the towns of EB Magalona, Ilog, Isabela, La Carlota, San Enrique, Don Salvador Benedicto, Pulupandan, and Candoni are COVID-19-free [2]. Meanwhile, San Carlos City has seen a rise in COVID-19 cases and has the highest number of active cases in Negros Occidental at 25 infections. On the other hand, Himamaylan and Hinoba-an have the lowest number of cases, with each town having only one active infection.



Health News


Negros Occidental allocates PhP30 million on vaccines

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson of Negros Occidental allocated PhP30 million from the 2021 provincial budget for COVID-19 vaccines. Under the province’s vaccination plan, medical frontliners, senior citizens, indigents, and other frontline workers like the military and the police will be prioritized.

The governor also stated that he signed a non-disclosure agreement with a pharmaceutical company in regards to procurement of their vaccines. Lacson also encouraged local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental to issue a budget for the purchasing of vaccines for their residents [3].

Silay hospital to receive PhP50 million for expansion

Based on the approved 2021 national budget by President Rodrigo Duterte, Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City will receive PhP50 million for its expansion. The fund was allocated by the Department of Health (DOH) as the hospital intends to add more rooms and facilities for patients with infectious diseases. Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said that the expansion of the hospital is set for the third quarter of 2021 once the budget is collected [4].
