The community quarantine in Bacolod City may keep you at home most of the time, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do safe outdoor activities. While most areas are still closed due to the COVID-19 threat in the city, there are places to unwind and soak up some vitamin D (and sea!). Safety is everyone’s top priority during this pandemic, but budget-friendly leisure can also be attained. This article enumerates low-cost and safe outdoor activities you can do without leaving the island of Negros. Read on!

1. Exercise at the Bacolod Government Center.

Location: Circumferential Road, Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City

If you are itching to get back into a healthy routine, head to the Bacolod Government Center!

Getting fit after months of staying indoors is one the first outdoor activities most would consider. Since gyms and fitness studios limit the number of people allowed inside, there is an alternative location where you can exercise. The grounds of the Bacolod Government Center allows citizens to run, walk, and bike while maintaining physical distancing at the same time. It has a large pathway for running and walking at any time of the day. Behind the government hall is also an open field perfect for various workouts.

2. Have lunch at Seaside Floating Restaurant

After eating at home for months, a refreshing change of dining view could also be on your list. One place to consider is Seaside Floating Restaurant in Balaring, Silay, which is just a 20-minute drive from Bacolod City. Tucked away from the loud metropolis, this restaurant offers seafood selections cooked in various preparations. For safety, customers who will dine in will be asked to follow social distancing protocols. The capacity of diners per table will also be limited.

3. See the golden sunset at The Ruins.

Though gathering and having a picnic by The Ruins is not yet allowed, you can still roam around the premises and see the sunset. The view of the glistening ancestral mansion during sundown is a glorious sight to catch. Since the hours for visiting are also shortened due to the curfew, it is best to leave before it gets dark.

4. Take a breather at Lantawan View Silay.

Location: Silay-Lantawan Road, Silay City, Negros Occidental

COVID-19

Lantawan View Silay has a vast space for everyone to follow social distancing while relaxing.

Perched on the highlands of Silay, Lantawan View Silay is the best site to take a break and breathe in the fresh air. Once you arrive, you will be surrounded by trees and welcomed by the view of the mountains. In compliance with the new normal guidelines, guests will be required to register their names and contact numbers for contact tracing. Swimming is allowed but will be limited to 15 people at a time. Meanwhile, occupancy will be reduced in cottages, so bring only a few friends when you come to unwind.

5. Soak under the sun at Sipalay’s open beaches.

Good news for those who missed their summer vacation due to the COVID-19 threat: some of the beautiful beaches of Sipalay are open again! Sipalay is now allowing tourists to visit the following beaches: Poblacion Beach, Sugar Beach, Nauhang Beach, Cartagena Beach, Mayha/Montay Beach, and Cayhagan Beaches. Soaking under the sun is good to ease the anxieties brought by the pandemic for being indoors.

If you are planning to head to Sipalay during quarantine, these are the guidelines laid out by the local government:

• Guests and tourists need to book their accommodation in establishments in Sipalay City.
• Guests have to fill out the Inbound Form with sign certification from respective barangay halls.
• Compliance with the inspection at the border checkpoint, temperature scanning, handwashing, and hand sanitation are required.
• Tourists need to fill out the Health Declaration Form at the front desk.

As rules become more lax, appreciating the outdoors is now easier!
