Traffic News: 46M budget allocated for 3 satellite markets in Bacolod
PhP46 million was allocated by the national government for the construction and renovation of three satellite markets in Bacolod. Granada and Sum-ag Public Markets will be renovated, while the Banago Village Public Market will be constructed. According to Congressman Greg Gasataya, the projects are scheduled for implementation in March or April of this year. Gasataya also mentioned that the national government allotted a total of PhP1.5 billion for projects like rehabilitation of roads and drainage around the city. Lastly, the Department of Public Works and Highways will also improve the street lights systems in some areas.
Travel Update: Bacolod businessman requests council’s LNO for port project
Vladimir Gonzales, a businessman backing a port project in Banago, passed a request to the Bacolod City Council to expedite the Letter of No Objection (LNO) for the project. The letter would permit him to proceed with the reclamation application and the 232-hectare port development. The 232-hectare port will consist of a hundred-hectare Economic Zone dedicated to factories, assembling plants, and a port of international standards. Gonzales also mentioned that there are a lot of investors for this project and the city government could collect huge taxes and job opportunities from it.
Tourism News: New tourism officer vows to support the industry
Cristine Mansinares of Negros Occidental, the new chief of the Tourism Development Department of DOT-Western Visayas, has vowed to continue supporting the province’s proposal for sustainable and inclusive tourism industry. The province is currently focusing on its tourism development plan which includes marketing and promotions, infrastructure developments, and training as well.
Passed Laws and Ordinance: Negros Occidental imposed ban of pork products from Mindanao
Negros Occidental expanded its ban on the entry of pork products to the entire province of Mindanao to protect the province's swine industry from the African Swine Fever (ASF). Previously, the ban only covered the Davao region which had a positive case for ASF that caused the death of a thousand pigs. In December 2019, a permanent ban on the entry of pork products from Luzon was also implemented.
