This Week in Bacolod (February 2 to 8, 2020)

But because of the chance of increasing cloudiness and morning showers from Wednesday until Friday, it is best to go out in the afternoons if you plan to head out. The weekend is expected to have nice weather, so you can spend it with your friends in the nearest attractions in Bacolod. Bacolod’s temperature for this week will run from 29 °C to 31 °C [1].

Recently, DILG Bacolod Director Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag reminded barangay officials to perform their roles in the continuing maintenance and sustainability of the cleared roads within their respective jurisdiction. In compliance with Memorandum Circular (MC) 2019-121 dated July 29 and MC 2019-176 dated Oct. 4, village officials such as barangay chairpersons and council members are tasked to perform their responsibilities in the conduct of road-clearing operations [2].

Madayag also directed the barangay officials to follow the approved ordinances during implementation and to collaborate with the city mayor for the clearing of roads from illegal structures. To sustain peaceful, smooth, orderly, and continuous implementation of the road-clearing operations, village officials are asked to mobilize village watchmen for monitoring.

Starting February 5, 2020, barangay officials shall submit reports every fifth day of the month for monitoring of their compliances. Barangay officials will have 60 days to exercise their power to reclaim public roads.

With the recent news about the contagious new coronavirus (CoV) which originated in China, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said that the creation of a task force against it will be considered [3].

Leonardia also said that the city is expecting guests coming from China this coming Bacolaodiat Festival, but they have yet to arrive so no one should be alarmed yet. In addition, the Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution for City Health Office and City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office to prepare for necessary assessments for the virus. They were also told to take appropriate precautions since a suspected CoV case is now in Cebu City.
