Phivolcs assures Mt. Kanlaon is in a normal state
Since the eruption of Taal Volcano last January 12, misleading reports about the activity of Mt. Kanlaon have also circulated on social media. However, Mt. Kanlaon is in a normal status according to Phivolcs-Kanlaon Observation Station in La Carlota City [4]. In fact, Phivolcs-Department of Science and Technology (DOST) stated that the volcano’s alert status has been downgraded from Alert Level 1 (abnormal) to Alert Level 0 (normal) since October 25, 2019.
Phivolcs-DOST added that Kanlaon has exhibited a general decline of monitoring parameters to normal/baseline values since June 2019. They are also monitoring the volcano using parameters like volcanic earthquake activity, ground deformation, gas emission, and visual observation of the summit. If there’s a new development in Kanlaon’s condition, Phivolcs-DOST will immediately communicate it to everyone concerned.
