Construction of the new traffic island is underway
In Araneta Street, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started its construction of the traffic island. The island starts at Araneta Street in Barangay Tangub and ends at Barangay Sum-ag in Bacolod City.
As per the city’s Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya, the safety of pedestrians and motorists travelling in the area are their priorities. He added that there have been requests last year to construct the center Island in the said areas of the city.
Gasataya added that since these streets are known for their creepy vibes, many people tag them as “killer highway.” In fact, many accidents have been recorded involving different types of vehicles. He also pointed out that he made a request to DPWH to conduct a study and assessment for the construction of the center island [2].
Street lights, plants, and LED lights installed
Gasataya also revealed that part of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)’s project is putting up the street lights, plants and solar -powered LED lights [2]. Aside from the center island, they already started upgrading the city’s streetlights in Barangays Granada and Banago and from the Circumferential Road going to Murcia.
