Masskara Festival attendees are reminded to dispose waste properly in Bacolod.

Why stay indoors when you can go out and enjoy the sun? Although there will be gray skies over some areas of Bacolod City, this week will generally give you fine weather. Meanwhile, Bacolod City Councilor Dindo Ramos gathered PUJ drivers and owners of Granada, Alangilan, and San Dioniso-Burgos routes to discuss the transfer of their terminals. In festival news, since the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) aims for zero major crime incidents during the festival, a total gun ban will be implemented for 20 days. To keep the festival sites clean, Bacolod City’s mayor and other city officials encourage the public to dispose of their wastes properly.
Weather Advisory: Sunny and cloudy skies with scattered rains
Over the next seven days, rain spots and thunderstorms will occur usually in mornings and afternoons in Bacolod City. Expect cloudy skies and scattered showers at the beginning of the work week specifically on Monday, October 21. On Tuesday, October 22, partial sunshine will show up. Some areaS in Bacolod City will experience intervals of clouds and sun for the rest of the week. This means that everyone can enjoy the ongoing Masskara Festival activities without worrying too much about the weather. This week’s temperature will range from 31°C to 32 °C [1].
Traffic News: Public hearing on transfer of terminals held
A public hearing on the transfer of terminals for PUJs took place recently. This was headed by Bacolod City Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairperson of the City Council Committee on Transportation. [2]. The agenda was about the proposal to transfer the three terminals of the public utility jeepney (PUJ) from Hilado Street to Daniel Ramos Street near the Burgos Public Market in Bacolod City.
Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) head Police Lieutenant Colonel Luisito Acebuche said that the terminals and diagonal parking of drivers had caused the traffic congestion in Hilado Street. He also said that a big volume of vehicles in the area builds up due to the traffic light at Burgos Street. He added that after the clearing operations at Ramos Street, the area is now availbale to be used for terminals for the PUJs plying the following routes: Granada- Burgos, Alangilan-Burgos, and San Dionisio-Burgos.
Affected drivers from Barangays Granada and Alangilan, and San Dioniso-Burgos route as well as the barangay officials were invited. They were given the chance to speak before the implementation of the said proposed terminal transfer.

Gun ban during Masskara Festival takes effect in 20 days
Aiming for zero major crime incidents during the 40th Masskara Festival, the BCPO has suspended the permit to carry firearms for 20 days. Starting October 15, gun owners are not permitted to carry firearms outside of their residences [3]. This will be enforced not just in the festival sites but in the entire city, and it will take effect from 8 a.m. of October 8 until 8 a.m. of October 27.
The order stated that only members of the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other law enforcement agencies performing official duties and in agency-prescribed uniforms are permitted to carry firearms.
People reminded to dispose waste responsibly
After the Masskara Festival was launched, food kiosks are now seen anywhere in Bacolod City. Since it is expected that cleanliness during the festival sites will be a challenge, Bacolod City officials especially Mayor Evelio Leonardia asked the public to responsibly dispose their wastes. They also reminded kiosk owners to immediately clean up their waste once the festival period is over [4]. Since this year’s festivities will run until October 27, Councilor Cindy Rojas said the policy of “Clean as You Go” shall be followed.
