Bacolod's Masskara Festival is just a week away!

Sightseeing in nearby breathtaking mountains this week is pretty much attainable because of the improved weather. Downtown, sidewalks within the City Central Market area will now be free from obstruction after vendors were required to vacate. Meanwhile, road repairs along Hernaez Street in Bacolod City have been questioned for forcibly destroying good roads. For this year’s Masskara Festival celebration, the committee is pleased to announce the festival schedule of activities. Meanwhile, the Coffee with Love Ordinance was already approved and will designate the Ylac Street in Bacolod City as the “Coffee District.”
Weather Advisory: Sunny spell and showers are headed through the week
The persistent rains in the past few weeks will now finally give way to the sun. Thundery showers are also expected to develop occasionally in some areas of Bacolod City. Since shower spots are still going to be present in the next seven-day forecast, it is advised to keep your umbrellas available. This week’s temperature will range from 31°C to 33°C [1].

Sidewalk vendors to vacate their stalls in five days
The City Administrator’s Office, headed by Acting Bacolod Mayor El Cid Familiaran, served a notice to 58 sidewalk vendors last September 18 to vacate their post at the Central Public Market and Masamart on Bonifacio Street in Bacolod City [2]. Vendors were given five days to get their belongings and vacate their areas. They were advised to transfer to the Bacolod Vendors Plaza.
A prayer rally was also held at the Fountain of Justice in downtown area to express vendor’s opposition on the repeal of CO 183, Series of 1980, or an ordinance providing for the disposition of kiosks and stalls constructed around Bacolod’s Central Public Market.
Road repairs in Bacolod City was questioned
The ongoing road repairs along Hernaez Street in Bacolod City was questioned by netizens and Land Bank of the Philippines Director Atty. Jayvee Hinlo. Atty. Hinlo said that good roads were forcibly destroyed, wasting taxpayers’ money.
Hinlo also asked District Rep. Greg Gasataya to check with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as to why it has been done. Rep. Gasataya explained, “All existing eight-inch thick road pavement of the outer lanes are being replaced with 12-inch thick pavement.” He also said that installation of drainage facilities will also be done under the pavement [3].
Travel Updates
40th Masskara Festival Schedule revealed
The activities of this year’s Ruby Masskara Festival Celebration will begin on October 8 at the Bacolod Public Plaza. People are also invited to head to Ayala Malls Capitol Central and watch the Search for Masskara Queen on October 23.
Although a venue has yet to be announced, another interesting activity awaits on October 25: the Masskara Fashion Show and Costumes Exhibit. Meanwhile, the fun-filled Ruby Electric Masskara Street Parade will happen on October 25-27, while the yearly merry making dance parade competition is scheduled on October 26 and 27 [4].
Coffee District in Bacolod City recognized
Councilor Carlos Jose Lopez’s proposed Coffee With Love Ordinance was already approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council) [5]. The Coffee With Love ordinance aims to promote Bacolod’s culture and arts by designating Ylac Street as the “Coffee District” of Bacolod City.
Known for having numerous coffee shops, Ylac Street of Barangay Villamonte in Bacolod City is patronized by people from various cities such as Talisay, Silay, and Bago. Before proceeding with the ordinance, policies and guidelines should be determined first.
