You may enjoy the city even more if the proposal for a 45-day traffic dry run will be approved. For tourism news, the Provincial Government welcomes the idea of privatizing Mambukal Resort. Meanwhile, the first DOT 'Accreditation on Wheels' was held in Bacolod City. Read on to get the complete details on these travel updates.
Weather Advisory: Rain and a bit of a sun through the week
It’s going to rain in the City of Smiles from September 1 until September 3. Thankfully, the sun will be seen in the morning of September 4 until September 5. For the weekend, gloomy clouds will bring morning showers in spots along with a few thunderstorms. To keep you safe and dry, prepare your rain gear when you’re planning to go out this weekend. This week’s temperature will range from 29°C to 32°C [1].
Traffic News: Proposal to resolve city traffic issues submitted
In Bacolod City, Executive Assistant Ernesto Pineda proposed a 45-day traffic dry run as a way to relief the traffic issues within the vicinity of Burgos Market [2]. The proposal includes the transfer of the terminal for the east-bound public utility jeepneys from Hilado Street to Daniel Ramos Street.
Pineda said that Hilado Street has always been congested with traffic since east-bound PUJ’s are parked diagonally on the road side. He will meet with the chairman of the Sangguniang Councilor to present the said proposal. Pineda will also meet with the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office and the three drivers operators associations.
Travel Update: Mambukal Resort seen to be privatized
To improve the income of Mambukal Resort, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said that the Provincial Government Office is open to the idea of having it privatized [3]. Early this year, a portion of the resort’s convention hotel had collapsed. The mayor said that they are currently waiting for the opinion of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers regarding the structure.
A budget of PhP84 million for the construction of the Mambukal Convention Hotel and for repair of the resort's tourist lodge was allocated by the Provincial Government. To date, the hotel has not operated yet and has not been turned over yet to the Provincial Government.
In line with the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) mandate, Western Visayas brought its "Accreditation on Wheels" program to Bacolod City. The mandate aims to develop and enforce a system of required accreditation for primary tourism enterprises and voluntary accreditation for secondary tourism enterprises.
In relation to this, Memorandum Circular 2019-17 issued by Interior Secretary Eduardo Año instructed all LGUs to require all primary tourism enterprises, particularly accommodation establishments, to secure accreditation from DOT before they are issued licenses or permits to operate.
This is the first DOT "Accreditation on Wheels" in Bacolod City. It was a partnership between the Bacolod City local government unit (LGU) and DOT-Western Visayas.
