Summer has arrived last week and will continue to keep the City of Smiles warm this week. Meanwhile, to ensure safe practices on the road, trainings and seminars for drivers will now become one of the major requirements when getting a license or franchise for public transport vehicles. In other news, another festival is now set to take Bacolod City by storm, as an annual rum festival is proposed by a city councilor. For the complete details and travel updates, keep reading.
Weather Advisory: Sunny with a blend of cloudy skies
With temperatures ranging from 34 °C to 36 °C this week, Bacolodnons will experience the real summer season [1]. A few clouds and brief showers will develop in some parts of the city in the middle of the week. To stay fit and healthy, make sure to bring water each time you go outdoors. Enjoy the summer even more by matching your outfit with it. It is better to wear cotton clothing to make you feel comfortable even while the sun heats up the city.
Traffic News: Trainings and seminars for drivers urged
Just recently, a road accident involving a Ceres Liner Bus occurred in Bago City. Driven by the tragic incident, Bacolod City Councilor Dindo Ramos pushed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to strictly require the operators to submit proof stating that their drivers have attended trainings and seminars before a franchise can be issued to them [2]. Councilor Ramos also suggested that the Land Transportation Office (LTO) require the same training to driver’s license applicants. Once this law is carried out, violators will be arrested by traffic enforcers.
Passed Laws and Ordinance: Rum Festival in Bacolod approved
It’s going to be real fun in Bacolod now that the ordinance pushed by Councilor Em Ang to hold an annual Rum Festival in Bacolod City was approved by the Bacolod Sanggunian Panlungsod on the first reading [4].
Councilor Ang shared the Brand Champions 2018 report, where it was shown that Tanduay – a Philippine brand wine has overtaken Bacardi for the first time as the world’s best-selling rum brand. He added that since Negros is known to be the Sugar Capital of the Philippines and Tanduay is the best-selling rum in Asia, it is suitable to establish a festival to celebrate the contribution of rum in the sugar industry. It is stated in the ordinance that the rum festival shall be held for two days every third weekend of August in Bacolod City.
