Due to the upcoming implementation of the increase in excise taxes on petroleum products this year, the Central Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. (CENECO) tells consumers to expect an increase in power rates.
However, the implementation of the power rate increase is still subject to the approval of the Energy Regulatory Commission.
According to Mr. Roel Venus, CENECO Member-Consumers Integrated Services Division Chief, the power utility firm could not determine the increase rate computation yet. He explained that if the fuel prices will increase, CENECO will also increase their rates definitely.
CENECO General Manager Sulpicio Lagarde Jr. revealed that, in October to November last year, CENECO has implemented a .69 centavo rate reduction. He also said that despite the stable power supply, 70 percent of their power derives from coal. He pointed out that Negros still really needs additional capacity from whatever source. [3].
