Christmas in the City of Smiles is always celebrated intimately, with an emphasis on spirituality. Most of the Bacolenos celebrate Christmas Eve with their loved ones by attending mass in one of the city’s heritage churches, the San Sebastian Cathedral located at the heart of the City. If you are planning to celebrate Christmas in Bacolod City, it is advised to bring your rain gears because of the isolated rain showers happening this week.

Meanwhile, better traffic condition is expected once a masterplan for Bacolod City is completed; seaports and airport inspections of outgoing animals and animal byproducts by the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) will be conducted before Christmas celebrations begin; and Sipalay City has been recognized to become a top sustainable destination in Western Visayas. Weather Advisory: Scattered showers on holiday season

Ready your umbrellas and rain coats this holiday season! This week will have possible isolated thunderstorms to affect some areas of the city. A couple of scattered showers are also expected to develop, mainly in the afternoons. Because of the scattered cloudy skies, there is a low chance for the sun to show for the rest of the week including the weekend. This week’s temperature will range from 29 °C to 31°C [1].

Traffic News: Traffic Management Masterplan for Bacolod

Heavy traffic during the peak season usually cannot be avoided. The recent visit of the 15-man team from the MMDA promises that a solution to the city’s traffic problem is on the works. The team was able to gather data and analyze the traffic in Bacolod streets from December 2 to 13 in preparation of the Traffic Management Masterplan for Bacolod [2].

Travel Updates

Seaports and ports to be inspected by Provincial Veterinary Office before Christmas begins

Due to a projected increase of domestic movements this month, Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) deployed inspectors to the airport and to different seaports in the province to conduct inspections of outgoing animals and animal byproducts before the Christmas celebration begins. Areas to be inspected include San Carlos, Escalante, Cadiz, the Banago and Bredco ports of Bacolod, and the Bacolod-Silay Airport [3].

PVO also covers the monitoring of 279 meat stalls in Negros Occidental, excluding Bacolod City, to ensure the proper price, hygienic handling, and good storage of meat and meat products. They also update profiles of meat stalls and meat traders, in coordination with different local government units, to help intensify and to closely monitor movements involving live animals and byproducts to prevent diseases from crossing the province. Sipalay City eyed as a sustainable destination and clean tourist city

Known for its white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, Sipalay City in southern Negros Province is anticipated to be a top sustainable destination by The Department of Tourism (DOT) in Western Visayas [4].

City Tourism Operations Officer Jerick Lacson said in an interview that with emerging problems related to the environment, their tourism campaign is now focusing on making Sipalay. They see the city’s potential to be the next awardee of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Clean Tourist City and the Top 100 Sustainable Destinations.

The Top 100 Sustainable Destinations initiative aims to recognize tourism destinations that exerted hard work to take sustainability seriously.
