There is a chance of occasional rain this week, so Bacolenos are advised to bring their umbrellas to avoid getting soaked. Meanwhile, a team from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be drawing a traffic master plan to help improve the local traffic situation. In terms of tourism, the Department of Tourism (DOT) of Negros Occidental will host a food festival event in Ayala Capitol Central this December 19 to 21, 2018. Weather Advisory: Some rain showers and sunny spells this week

There will be variable cloudiness that could lead to some rains in areas of Bacolod City. A thunderstorm in spots may move in at the start of the week, particularly on Monday, December 17. Meanwhile, Tuesday is set to be a warm and sunny day with a temperature of 32 °C. Cloudy skies will bring in occasional rain showers in the afternoon of Wednesday, December 19, while a blend of sun and clouds is expected to show off towards the weekend [1].

Traffic News: Full force to ease traffic congestion in Bacolod City

To help improve the local traffic situation, the city council’s committee on transportation and traffic management sought the help of traffic management experts from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

A fifteen-man team from the MMDA headed by Traffic and Engineering Center Director Neomie Recio was deployed to study the traffic in Bacolod City. Based on the initial assessment in the first two days, it was concluded that the traffic management in Bacolod City is more organized compared to other parts of the country.

The team will bring the data to Manila after their twelve-day study for analysis and evaluation. It will take three to four months to finish the evaluation which will be the basis for a traffic master plan [2].

Tourism News: Food and travel festival happening in Bacolod this holiday season

“Kaon Na ‘Ta,” a festival which aims to reintegrate values and revive traditional food practices of Negros Occidental, will be held this December 19 to 21, 2018 in the soon-to-open Ayala Capitol Central [3].

Hosted by the DOT, the festival will feature Bacolod City as one of the country’s premier culinary destinations and also highlight it as a farm tourism destination. The event aims to encourage more people to know more about the local cuisines of the province.

Speakers will talk about health and sustainable and green practices in farms, hotels, restaurants and other tourism establishments.

Passed Laws and Ordinance: Amendment on plastic bag regulation comes into effect

After its third and final reading last week, the city council approved the amendment on City Ordinance No. 562 regulating the use, sale, and provision of plastic bags as packaging materials in Bacolod City.

The author of the said ordinance, Councilor Em Ang, said that she still sees a widespread use of single plastic bags in the city.

Stated in Section 3 of the regulation, business establishments dispensing single-use plastic bags including but not limited to fast food outlets, market vendors, shopping malls, food kiosks, sari-sari stores, hardware stores, groceries, pharmacies, and the like shall only provide biodegradable plastic.

Section 7 of the ordinance is also part of the amendment and it states that biodegradable plastic bags shall comply with the Philippine National Standard promulgated by the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, and other government agencies concerned [4].
