Three-month fishing ban starts this month
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Western Visayas is set to implement the three-month fishing ban starting on November 15. The purpose of the ban is to allow the spawning of sardines, herrings, and mackerels once more in the Visayan Sea. The fishing ban contributes to the protection and conservation of the country’s marine resources since The Visayan Sea is one of the centers of marine biodiversity in Visayas. The fishing ban will last until February 2019.
Festival of Lights, a proposed festival, 2 months after Masskara
Bacolod councilor Em Ang wanted to create another annual celebration in Bacolod City. The festivity is envisioned as the Bacolod Festival of Lights, and is eyed to be held less than two months after the world-famous Masskara Festival last October. The celebration is inspired from the parade that STI-West Negros University has been doing for 22 years now. This is great news for tourists since there are now emerging tourism festivals after Masskara. The said festival is eyed to be institutionalized this month and hopefully will be celebrated Christmastime next year.
