The festival began in 1980 when the city was going through an economic crisis. The local government held a festival in the hopes that it will lift the sorrows of the people and encourage them to smile through their hardships.
October 1 marks the first day of the MassKara Festival. The festival began in 1980 when the city was going through an economic crisis. The local government held a festival in the hopes that it will lift the sorrows of the people and encourage them to smile through their hardships.
In addition, a MassKara Queen press presentation will be held on the same day at 12:00 NN in the Business Inn Plaza. At 3:00 PM, there will be a drum and bungle competition. At 5:00 PM the opening rites of MassKara 2016 will be held in the public plaza.
This year will be the longest running MassKara celebration as it will be observed from October 1 to 23. On top of this grand festival, residents of Bacolod also celebrate their 77th charter day on October 19.

Bacolod hotels already 90% booked for the MassKara Festival

As the MassKara Festival nears, hotels in Bacolod City are almost fully booked, per the data gathered by the city’s Tourism Office. More guests are reserving the remaining vacant rooms by the day so those planning to visit Bacolod for the Festival are advised to secure their hotels before they proceed to the city. Nonetheless, the Tourism Office is coordinating a possible homestay program where Bacolod residents will be opening their houses to receive guests. Neighboring cities are also being tapped to accommodate visitors for the Festival.

Bomb scare alarms authorities

An unidentified bag was left on a bench at the public plaza last Thursday, September 14. A plaza worker stated that she saw two men who were speaking in Tagalog, taking out what appeared to be clothes from the bag. They placed their belongings inside a paper bag and left the area at around 7:00 AM. Bomb expert Denny Montoya was able to open the bag with a water distributor. The contents of the bags were just clothes. No identification cards were found inside. Montoya advised the public to immediately report any suspicious items to the police.

Thunder storms and showers are to be expected throughout this week. There is a 60% to 80% chance of rain throughout this week, mostly during day time. In case of sudden showers, it is advised that travelers pack small umbrellas, which also does double duty in protecting themselves from the heat.

Fortrust, an international education agency based in Australia, will be having a free seminar on how to live, study, and work in New Zealand or Australia. It will be held on September 25, 1:00 PM at Circle Inn Hotel and Suites. They will also be having a one-on-one consultation during the event.

The District North Point by Ayala Malls will be holding a Defense of the Ancients (DOTA) 2 gaming tournament on October 1 and 2. The event will be held in the activity center from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Registration is at PhP350 per person.

For fitness enthusiasts, there will be a Zumba Neon Dance Party at the People’s House on September 25, 6:00 PM. Tickets are priced at PhP150 and is inclusive of a singlet. The dance party is for the benefit of Gawad Kalinga and CBA IHelp Fund.
In celebration of their 26th anniversary, L’Fisher Hotel will hold a concert dubbed Acoustic Sessions with Paolo Santos on September 29.
